At the invitation of the French Embassy in the United States, and after a lengthy preparation phase, we experienced a particularly intense week of immersion in the capital of Massachusetts: visits to incubators, multiple contacts with specialists from LiveScience and DeepTech, lawyers, FDA experts, hospitals, neurologists, and EMS personnel!

Bringing together high-level personalities in both AI and stroke research from both sides of the Atlantic, the Scientific Advisory Board of AI-Stroke is set to meet quarterly to guide us, support us, and validate our scientific choices.

Inclusion of the 150th patient at CHU Nîmes
Halfway there (we aim for 300 patients) in building our dataset. Each patient is filmed for approximately 9 minutes while performing 46 small exercises, resulting in nearly 50 hours of video. This will ultimately make our dataset the largest in the world.

AI-Stroke: Netva 2024 winner
We are very proud to be one of the 16 French deep tech start-ups selected to participate in the 2024 edition of the NETVA 'New Technology Venture Accelerator' program - Start in America, organized by the French Embassy in the United States’ Science and Technology Department with the support of BPI France. We are going to Boston in May 2024 to develop technology partnerships for future business opportunities in the United States.

We went to Montpellier’s twin town of Heidelberg (Germany) to meet the entire local innovation ecosystem and the people who could become our partners and customers in Germany: the Leitungsstelle (emergency services call center), the ambulance service, and Heidelberg University Hospital etc..

AI-Stroke, winner of i-Lab 2023
The i-Lab competition, organized every year by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation is a real reference in the world of innovation. In addition to the satisfaction of having the work of the entire AI-Stroke team over the past 18 months recognized, this award comes with a substantial grant that will be a great help in developing our digital neurologist.

€250k Convertible Bonds from BPI France
The Innovation Bank BPI France gives us more backing, this time in the form of €250k in Convertible Bonds. This is all the more important because this amount can act as a lever for other fund-raising efforts.

Inclusion of the fist patient in our database
On August 28, 2023, the team of Professor Thouvenot (head of the Neurology Department at CHU Nîmes) added the first patient of the “Prédistroke” research project. After obtaining their consent, each patient is invited to perform different exercises while being filmed on a tablet. We will film 300 patients for almost 10 minutes; to date, there is no such complete dataset in the world.

CNIL Formally authorizes our research projects
After months of waiting, the CNIL (France’s IT supervisory body) formally authorizes our work. On June 8, the plenary committee (the CNIL’s highest body) issues a double authorization: • At CHU Nîmes: to film stroke patients • At AI-Stroke: to use these videos to train its digital neurologist.

The 14 SATTs are public structures with a special remit to foster growth and create bridges between the world of research and the world of business. AxLR, the SATT based in Montpellier, certifies our project for the CBs of BPI France before granting us €100k funding through with its acceleration program, Time to Market Factory.

Pre-Seed €160k A dozen BAs in our capital
Our first fund-raising venture raises €160k from private investors particularly aware of the problem of strokes, and from WiiCare, a start-up developing an innovative solution of sensors to prevent falls.

The Patient Protector Committee approves our clinical trial
At its meeting on September 13, 2022, the Ethics Committee made only “non-blocking and non-suspensory” remarks. As soon as we have the CNIL’s agreement, we can begin collecting videos of stroke patients.

BPI France, the public bank that finances innovation, has just shown real confidence in our work with a French Tech Emergence grant of €90,000. This will help us cover the early costs of innovation: legal expertise, collection of videos of stroke patients in Nîmes, and first developments etc.

Organized every year by EurobioMed, Invest in BioMed brings together the majority of regional, national, and European health investors to increase networking. AI-Stroke is the most early stage start-up to have been selected to pitch to investors.

First videos with healthy patients
To train our AI, in addition to videos of stroke patients (which will be filmed at CHU Nîmes), we need videos of healthy patients. For this step, we only need the person’s consent. Many thanks to our first seven volunteers and the Villa Helios in Montpellier for their welcome and kindness!

Entry into Montpellier´s incubator
Since March 2022, AI-Stroke has been pre-incubated at the Business Innovation Center. The Accreditation Committee accepted our application on May 16 and we are now fully part of the BIC family, just like so many great successes before us!

CHU Nîmes Promotion Agreement
This morning we met with CHU Nîmes’ Management Committee for Research, Teaching Hospital and International Partnerships and obtained an endorsement agreement for our preliminary trial for collecting videos of stroke patients.

After six months of brainstorming and ground work, our small company is now officially here. It has been logged with the Montpellier Trade and Companies Register as "RCS Montpellier 908 785 470". It is only administrative, but it is still an important step!
